The Pearson family gets more than they bargained for on their family vacation.

When the Pearson family goes to the lake for their summer vacation, the rented house has more than the usual amenities. The kids discover that aliens have landed and are occupying the attic. These aliens from the planet Zircon are small green beings intent on taking over the planet. They are the scouting mission for their species, and are about to call in the entire invasion armada.

The Pearson kids, played by Ashley Tisdale (High School Musical), Austin Butler (Ruby and the Rockits), Carter Jenkins, Ashley Boettcher, and twins Henri and Regan Young, discover that the mind control device the aliens use only works on adults, so they must get their parents out of the house while they work on taking care of the aliens.

Getting Rid of the Aliens

With their parents away, they get to work. However they forget about their grandmother (Doris Roberts) who remains in the house and is implanted with a mind control device. But these ingenious kids discover a remote control that lets the user manipulate the implanted human, so they turn their grandmother into a fighting machine.

The kids find they have an ally in one of the little aliens who is not on the mission voluntarily. Sparks likes the humans and does not want to harm them. But his fellow Zirkonians are intent on taking over earth.

There are some cute scenes for kids to enjoy. And little Sparks is downright adorable. With all the gadgets the kids put together to stop the aliens, is it similar in feeling to Home Alone, only with little green aliens instead of bumbling burglars.

DVD and Blu-ray Editions

Aliens in the Attic comes in two packages. There is a standard DVD and there is a Blu-ray edition which includes a digital copy as well. The bonus features on the discs include a look at the making of the film from the perspective of the kids. Although it is supposed to take place in Michigan, they actually filmed the movie on location in New Zealand. Far from home, the actors bonded together and had fun fishing and enjoying their time in New Zealand.

There is also an animated short gag reel featuring the Zirkonians. And the filmmakers discuss how they made the movie and show the actual models used for the Zirkonians. Deleted Scenes are also included as well as an introduction by Ashley Tisdale.

In all, the bonus features include:

  • The Ashley Encounters with Ashley Tisdale
  • Introduction by Ashley Tisdale

  • Behind the Zirkonians

All of these additional features are included in both the Blu-ray and DVD editions.
