An American Carol is such a bad film that instead of debunking the anti-war movement it actually makes a stronger case for exiting Iraq than Michael Moore ever did.

An American Carol was supposed to be a comedic answer to Michael Moore’s parade of liberal films and the anti-war movement as a whole. However, instead of trying to make an intelligent argument the film relies on knee jerk prejudice and fear mongering. Its hateful tone kills any comedic value it might have had otherwise, and by the end of the film one feels utterly saddened and betrayed by the actors who chose to participate in this shamefully sexist and racist political rant. Movies like this paint America as a land of ignorance and do a disservice to America and true patriots everywhere.

The Most Unpatriotic and Shameful Film Ever Made in America

From the very first moments An American Carol a viewer immediately gets a sense both of the content and the quality of the movie, as its very first gag is to have a frisbee hit an African-American woman on the head at a seemingly all white picnic. Of course, we don’t see her again for the rest of the picnic or the movie. The only other person of color at the picnic, a little boy sitting by himself at the end of the kiddie table, is shown in one shot and never seen again, though the rest of the movie takes place at that very table. It’s a Fourth of July picnic - so where are the rest of Americans who happen not to be white?

The only other role people of color have in this film is a sickening alternative reality scene involving a slave plantation that makes a viewer wonder how much money the actors were paid to demean themselves. Non-Arab actors seem to play most of the Arab roles, which unsurprisingly for the most part consist of terrorists. An American Carol is supposed to be a comedic argument against the left, but is nothing more than a silly, thoughtless and hateful diatribe. Overtones of racism and sexism are present in every moment of the film - the movie even goes so far as to make a case for racial profiling. Intelligence and education is attacked as being unpatriotic.

A Better Case Against the War than Even Michael Moore Could have Made

This movie makes a stronger case against going to war than any “liberal” film could have. It paints all people who are against the war as hippie pacifists and makes no logical argument for the war whatsoever. It is little more than a propaganda film for the already converted, though there are probably many conservatives who would take issue with this movie, if for no other reason than the fact that it makes Americans look stupid and conservative Americans even stupider.

All of the conservative “heroes” in this film are laughable, perhaps with the exception of Josh, Michael Malone’s nephew. Kelsey Grammer makes General Patton into a buffoon and Chriss Anglin‘s depiction of John F. Kennedy is thoroughly unpatriotic in its disrespectful tone, as is John Voight’s irreverently stupid George Washington. None of these famous men are presented as intelligent, thoughtful or dignified - ironic considering that most of the movie is a lecture on patriotism and a criticism of liberals for not being patriotic enough.

Someone needs to tell David Zucker that blind, unquestioning stupidity is not synonymous with patriotism. What is more patriotic is using one’s intelligence for the benefit of the nation. Real bravery is being brave enough not to conform, but to question and to strive to better oneself and one’s country.
