This month offers all kinds of comedy DVD releases including the long-awaited Blu-ray version of My Cousin Vinny.

From sweet comedies for teens (Hannah Montana: The Movie) to more adult fare (I Love You, Man), this month offers a variety of new comedy releases. The collection includes DVD versions, such as special two and three-disc combo packages, and finally (after its theatrical release 17 years ago) My Cousin Vinny makes it to Blu-ray.

August 4 Comedy DVD Release: My Cousin Vinny

My Cousin Vinny (1992) Blu-ray

When two friends traveling through the southern United States mistakenly get arrested for murder, one of the young men calls in his cousin Vincent Gambini (Joe Pesci) to help. Cousin Vinny, a new lawyer with no courtroom experience, shows up with his girlfriend (Marisa Tomei) and stack of law books hoping to win the difficult case. However, Vinny’s brash New York style and inexperience offend the small-town Alabama judge who oversees the trial. Between his outlandish clothes, courtroom mistakes, and mispronunciations, combined with his girlfriend’s badly timed outbursts, My Cousin Vinny remains a comedy classic that’s still funny today.

  • Also starring Ralph Macchio, Mitchell Whitfield, Fred Gwynne, Lane Smith, Austin Pendleton, Bruce McGill
  • Director: Jonathan Lynn

A man in his late 30s lives with regrets from his former glory days in high school when he was a basketball star with a bright future. Now trapped between his family and a workday routine, he magically gets the chance to be 17 years old again (in the present time). He struts through his children’s high school and sees his family members through entirely different eyes in sometimes comical, sometimes heartwarming ways. Even though the central story concerns a kid in high school, much of the humor is designed for adults.

Through a series of man-dates, he finds the right guy, yet discovers that the closer he gets to his friend, the further away he gets to his fiancée. Ultimately, he needs to choose between romance and bromance.
