Comedy Movie Preview Fall 2008Kate Hudson, Dane Cook, Tyler Perry, Bill Maher in Upcoming Releases
A romantic comedy, a comedy-drama, and a humorous documentary come to theaters this fall.
Beginning in September, look for a variety of independent comedy theatrical releases this fall from Lionsgate. A romantic strategy backfires. Kate Hudson, Dane Cook, and Jason Biggs star in this romantic comedy about a self-assured woman who breaks up with her overly eager new boyfriend, Dustin (Biggs). In an effort to win her back, he asks his best friend, Tank (a professional bachelor and rebound specialist for ex-boyfriends), to give her the worst date of her life, which in turn will make Dustin look like a great catch in comparison. The plan backfires when the rebound specialist (Cook) likes this woman too much to let go of her.
Tyler Perry’s The Family That Preys A comedy-drama written and directed by Tyler Perry about two matriarchs. Kathy Bates and Alfre Woodard star as the powerful mothers of two different families caught in a scandalous extramarital affair in this contemporary comedy-drama. In Perry's sixth feature film, a wealthy socialite (Bates) and her working class friend (Woodard) have enjoyed a long-time friendship until their adult children, an unethical business, and a paternity secret cause problems for everyone involved. Needing an escape from the current crises, the two women embark on a cross-country road trip to form a plan for saving their families from ruin.
Religulous A documentary produced by and starring Politically Incorrect Bill Maher. Political humorist and author Maher travels around the world interviewing people about their religious beliefs. Targeting one of his favorite subjects, organized religion, Maher aims for a funny documentary about (as noted in his filmmaker statement) “the ancient mythological stories that live on as today’s religions.” Known for his analytical skills, quick wit and telling it like it is, Maher describes his unusual spiritual journey in brutally honest terms. Directed by Larry Charles (Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, Curb Your Enthusiasm), this nonfiction film represents Charles’ first feature project since Borat hit the theaters in 2006.
