Ricky Gervais has conquered the TV, publishing and live comedy worlds, and now he turns his attentions to movies as he directs himself in "The Other Side of The Truth".

First Ricky Gervais conquered the television world, creating award-winning classics “The Office” and “Extras”. He’s a top-selling author with his “Flanimals” books, and had a sold-out stand-up comedy tour. One would think there’s not many areas of showbiz left for Ricky Gervais to master, but having appeared in a couple of successful movies to date (“Night At The Museum” and “Stardust”), he plans to turn his hand to directing.

Nothing But The Truth!

Gervais will be writing, co-directing and starring in a new movie called “The Other Side of the Truth”. He plays the part of Mark, a writer living in a world where lies do not exist. Mark invents the concept of lying, and decides to use it to his own ends, specifically winning over a woman he would never normally be able to attract (played by "Alias" star Jennifer Garner). “Superbad” star Jonah Hill and Rob Lowe are also attached to appear, and the movie is set for a 2009 release.

In his online blog, Gervais writes that his cast is even more impressive. “It's an amazing line up but I can't tell you all the cast just yet - not until the contracts are signed in blood” writes the comedian/actor, “I should be able to spill the beans, as we say in England, in about a week or so.”

Busy Day At The Office

Although it’s Gervais’ first try at directing a movie, it won’t be his first starring role by the time the film is released. He has, to date, only appeared in small supporting roles in feature films, being careful about which projects he chooses, but this winter he will be starring in “Ghost Town”. He stars as a dentist who can see ghosts. “As Good As It Gets” star Greg Kinnear will also appear.

Gervais also jokes in his blog that there may be a place for his Podcast colleague Karl Pilkington once the film is eventually out on DVD. “We're in good shape and we've even started planning the DVD extras.” He writes, “Matt, (Robinson, co-writer/director) wants Karl Pilkington to do an alternative directors commentary. Can you imagine? Karl will probably be busy with his own film idea by then.”

Gervais On Tour

Before any of these projects are released, American fans will be able to see the man in person, as Gervais has announced a series of live shows in New York and Los Angeles. He plans to play Oscars venue The Kodak Theatre, and the WaMu Theatre in Madison Square Gardens.
